Project Architect/ Manager
About Ink Built
Ink Built Architecture is a women-owned architecture firm based in Portland, Oregon, working regionally on affordable housing, shelter design, commercial renovations, and community-centered development. Equity, affordability, racial justice, sustainability, and climate change are not peripheral concerns for us — they are central to how we define good design. As a small firm, every team member contributes across disciplines, from production to design to project leadership.
We are seeking an experienced Project Architect/Manager ready to independently run projects from early design through construction administration, with the drive to lead and the collaborative spirit to build up the people around them.
Responsibilities
- Independently own and manage one or more 30-100+ unit (or equivalent) projects from early design through construction administration
- Manage client relationships directly, upholding firm expectations and client needs through clear communication on budget, schedule, and quality of delivery
- Coordinate consultants and manage contract implementation and performance across structural, MEP, civil, and specialty disciplines
- Develop and track project schedules and budgets, identifying and flagging risk early
- Mentor and guide job captains and design staff, reviewing work and supporting skill development
- Partner with Principals on scope, fee, and strategic project decisions
- Contribute directly to Revit production work as needed
- Navigate permitting, code compliance, and jurisdictional relationships with confidence
- Represent Ink Built in client presentations, public hearings, and design review as needed
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience with demonstrated ownership of projects and team leadership from early design through construction — required
- Multi-family and affordable housing experience — strongly preferred
- Full proficiency in Revit, with sound judgment regarding when to delegate production work
- Demonstrated record of independently managing consultants, budgets, and schedules
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to guide client and contractor teams toward productive solutions
- A collaborative approach that supports team culture rather than working in isolation
- Strong working knowledge of building and zoning code application
- Genuine alignment with Ink Built's mission around housing justice, equity, and sustainability
