Project Architect — Healthcare

The Role

TVA Architects is seeking an experienced Project Architect with healthcare design experience to join our team. This is a high-impact role for an architect who thrives on technically demanding work, cares deeply about the human experience of the spaces they design and wants to help shape healthcare environments that promote healing, dignity, and well-being.

You will lead and contribute to healthcare and related projects from concept through construction, balancing design intent, code compliance, consultant coordination, and client relationships. Primary Responsibilities

Design & Documentation

• Lead the development of design and construction documents across all project phases; from programming and schematic design through design development, construction documents, and construction administration.
• Produce and coordinate high-quality, code-compliant documentation in Revit.
• Develop architectural systems and details with precision, durability, and constructability in mind.

Healthcare Expertise & Code Compliance

• Apply working knowledge of healthcare facility design standards, including the FGI Guidelines, life safety (NFPA 101), accessibility requirements, and the Oregon and Washington structural specialty codes.
• Navigate regulatory review, licensing, and approval processes with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and the Washington State Department of Health Construction Review Services (CRS), as well as local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
• Integrate functional and operational requirements such as infection control, medical equipment planning, and clinical workflow considerations.

Project Leadership & Coordination

• Coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams, including structural, MEP, civil, and specialty healthcare consultants.
• Support Principals and Project Managers in managing scope, schedule, and budget.
• Lead and participate in QA/QC reviews to maintain technical excellence across deliverables.
• Provide construction administration support, including RFIs, submittals, and site observation.

Client & Team

• Build and maintain genuine, long-lasting relationships with clients, contractors, and consultants.
• Mentor and guide less-experienced staff, contributing to a culture of learning and shared expertise.
• Help advance firm-wide standards, knowledge, and best practices in healthcare design.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch) from a NAAB-accredited program.
• 5–15 years of professional architecture experience, including demonstrated experience on healthcare projects.
• Architectural license, or active pursuit of licensure; licensure is strongly preferred for senior-level consideration.
• Proficiency in Revit and current architectural software and BIM workflows.
• Working knowledge of healthcare codes and guidelines, including the FGI Guidelines and applicable life safety and accessibility standards. Experience with Oregon Health Authority and/or Washington State Department of Health review processes is highly desirable.
• Strong design sensibility paired with technical rigor and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a collaborative studio environment.
