Green Hammer is seeking a Project Engineer to join our creative and collaborative team of architects and builders. We are a Certified B Corporation and a leading sustainable design-build firm based in Portland, Oregon.

The Opportunity
As a Project Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting several of Green Hammer’s most impactful projects. The first is a PCEF funded community-serving project focused on climate resilience and equity outcomes. The second is a Living Building Challenge-certified project requiring extensive materials vetting, documentation, and compliance coordination.
You will help transform complex ideas into built work by ensuring that information, materials, schedules, and team coordination remain aligned throughout construction. Through our Unified Design-Build process, you will work closely with Project Managers, Field Managers, Architects, clients, consultants, and trade partners to support successful project delivery.
This role is ideal for an organized, self-starting professional who enjoys collaboration, problem-solving, and continuous learning. The position is designed as a professional growth opportunity with a pathway toward a Project Manager role and other leadership roles as experience and capabilities develop. Green Hammer supports a hybrid work environment. While this role is primarily based in our Portland office and on project sites, team members may work remotely up to one to two days per week, subject to project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting documentation, and project records
• Support Project Managers and Field Managers with project planning, scheduling, procurement, and budget tracking
• Coordinate information flow between clients, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and internal team members
• Assist with contract administration and monthly payment applications
• Maintain project documentation within Procore and other project management systems
• Support sustainability and certification efforts, including material documentation, product research, and compliance tracking
• Participate in project meetings and help ensure action items are tracked through completion.
• Support procurement and material tracking activities
• Contribute to continuous improvement of Green Hammer’s Unified Design-Build Process
Qualifications
You are inspired by Green Hammer’s mission and understand the value of working within a multidisciplinary team of architects, builders, and trade partners. You thrive in a collaborative environment, communicate effectively, and are comfortable managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
Required Qualifications:
• +3 years of experience minimum in construction, architecture, engineering, or a design-build environment
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications
• Solid understanding of construction sequencing and project delivery processes
• Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and cloud-based collaboration tools
• High emotional intelligence, accountability, and collaborative work ethic
• Commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Procore or similar construction management software
• Experience supporting sustainable building projects
• Familiarity with scheduling software and project controls
• Knowledge of Living Building Challenge, LEED, Passive House, or related certification programs
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field
Compensation & Benefits
This is a full-time position offering an annual salary range of $75,000-$95,000 DOE as well as a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
